After 5 days in Calgary staying at Bonnie and Ians it was time to get on the move again. Theywere very gracious hosts to let me disrupt their lives for as long as I did. I got to meet some of their friends and their cats (Bonnie and Ian’s, not the friends’) I got to see E-rock and Jimmy, tour the CM factory and meet Veronique which was one thing I really wanted to do after passing up the chance to interview with them again. (I really want to work there)
I rode south West to a smaller town called Bassano. Like a lot of prarie towns it seems to be shutting down one piece at a time. The odd store closing and houses getting run down. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it was ugly or anything, just that you could sense the struggle.
Farming looks like hard boring work to me. The landscape is dull as well. Field after field interrupted by the occassional cow. I also seem to never get the sun screen everywhere I should. Today it was the tops of my knees, which oddly were beginning to get sore. Well, maybe not that odd. I am able to get excellent cel phone reception. I suppose it is because there are no mountains so the line of signal from a tower must be miles and miles. Neat.
