So Zuimei and I bought a house and did some renos to it. I wanted to show some pictures because when I was looking for ideas there were not a lot of examples of redone fireplaces. I thought I should include some here for others to reference. You can find more photos of the house and the renos on my flickr account.
The fireplace was a major undertaking and apart from the yard ate up the bulk of the Renos. Jose Cortez of J.C. Construction was our contractor and he did a great job. I had sent photos of some fireplaces I liked and Photoshopped the colors of the stone and mantle and he got it spot on. The mantle is constructed in 4 pieces and the fireplace in the masterbedroom is identical but not as deep as this one. We still haven’t had a fire in it because the chimney needs to be cleaned and inspected but I can’t wait.
The yard was also a major expense in the renos, but you can see why. When we moved in, a month after the top photo was taken, the yard was overgown with weeds and morning glories, the grass was spotty and dying so we had people come in and plant us a new garden. Zuimei picked the flowers and he did a great job. I even have a fountain! It’s not the Koi pond I was dreaming of but it is lovely with the Japanese maple.
