CNN published a short list of sole survivors of plane crashes in response to the recent crash in Libya. It makes me laugh when people attribute such stuff to “God”. Like Mohammed el-Fateh Osman, a two-year-old Sudanese boy was reportedly called a “miracle dictated by God”. Or the little girl Erika Delgado who said he had been told by God to stay where she was until help came after surviving a crash near Bogota Columbia.
Why does no one ever claim the crash was ordained by God, or that the deaths of the hundreds of other people on board was “dictated by God”.
The answer, I guess is because the mind shrinks at such horrific circumstances and the statistical improbability leaves most scratching their heads. When things are difficult to understand or too hard to swallow, God becomes a suitable scapegoat.
