Gate House is the last all-male residence at the University of Toronto and is now going to be made co-ed. Well done femi-nazis, yet another win! The Metro summed it up nicely with “Animal House has been neutured“.
Apprently the administration frowns upon the stunts that the student have pulled, including putting a cooked pig’s head in the women’s washroom and building a 2.5 metre penis which one administrator called “gross insensitivity … flagrant acts of defiance and behaviour … disparaging and demeaning of women.”
I have a number of issues with this, but first kudos to Grayson Lee who not only erected the penis (pun intended) but had the balls to come forth and get his picture taken while others didn’t want to comment on the record for fear of reprisal.
My first issue is with the cooked pigs head. Granted it might be a little shocking to encounter the lord of the flies first thing in the morning, but it was cooked and anyone who has been to Chinatown knows those heads are all over the place – usually hanging on a hook next to the day-glo orange squid. So big deal.
Secondly since when is a sculpture of a penis degrading to women? I would challenge that even suggesting such a thing is misandrist (hating the male sex). The penis is just a body part. If he had done a sculpture of legs, would the administration claim it was degrading to cripples and amputees? Of course not. You can claim it is inappropriate, you can claim it is childish, but don’t for one penis loving second call it degrading to women!
The Japanese know how to celebrate the penis.
