A girl in Winnipeg was banned from a Judo tournament for wearing a headscarf. While I have had enough of this politically correct bullshit, a little common sense could have avoided this issue.
Now in this case, judo has not forbidden wearing headscarves. Shirin Farag, the girl’s coach has worn one in competitions for 10 years so obviously there is no problem. If someone is worried about an unfair advantage or potential injury, simply get the girls family to sign a waiver. No problem.
In a letter to its Canadian counterpart, the world federation said that because it does not recognize any religion, it would not accommodate hijabs or any other headcovering.
Okay I can buy that. It is their organization, they can make their own rules. I would never enter a mosque with my shoes on, it is against the rules. If Muslims want to change the rules and allow shoes then great, if not that is okay too. If Muslims want to start their own judo league, that is okay too. See kids, it is easy if everyone plays nice.
Look I have been in Judo manitoba for years, and on the international level and have seen this coach Shirin Farag compete. 3 weeks ago at a canadian tournament called REndez Vous Canada she fought, AND WITHOUT A HEAD SCARF!!! So what does this tell you about the honesty in saying that she hasn’t had a problem, cause she didn’t wear it!
