Well June 3 was another hard day but the morning started out brilliantly. There was no wind so I was able to hammer out 30km/hr for the first bit until I reached the border. I stopped for the obligatory photos and when I got back on the bike the wind was coming at me again, this time not full in the face but sort of diagnally. Still exhausting.
I would like to slap anyone who thinks the winds in the prairies blows from West to East. It blows anyway it wants which is usually the opposite of where I am headed. Maybe the Westerlies are predominant in the Winter or at 30,000 feet or something but down here it blows every way.
Manitobas roads are crap too. Shit even China has better highways. Like what the hell is the Manitoban government spending their tax dollars on? The Tranny doesn’t even have paved shoulders for God sake! I spent a lot of time in the oad forcing traffic into the left-hand lane. A few times I had to hurl myself onto the shoulder to avoid the trucks as they came by passing each other shoulder to shoulder. This was tough to control as loose gravel and a heavy bike are not condusive to safe biking.
I had passed a few towns in search of cold water so I was forced to pull into this town. Mine was warm and manky, plus I think a rat or squirrel was chewing my camelback mouthpiece. (can you catch diseases from rats?)
My butt was sore from bouncing along the frost heaves and by the time I reached Alexander I could hardly stay in the saddle. Well as luck would have it it was a fortuitous stop. I met a really nice couple who owned a really modern design shop.
She was kind enough to give me a ride the final 30km into Brandon. It would have been very very hard going.
