Security before privacy?

Security before privacy?

UNBC has begun controlling access to the sports centre with finger print scanners. There is nothing at UNBC that warrants that level of security. People are being forced one finger at a time to give up their right to privacy. They didn’t say what would happen to students who refused, or raised a ruckus? . Would they not be allowed to use the facility which they paid for?

Considering the University already has considerable information on students, surely the sports facility shouldn’t require them to provide even more! Rob van Adrichem, the UNBC director of media and public relations claims students don’t need to worry.

Van Adrich claims the system simply changes the image of the fingerprint into a number which is then associated with the student’s account. If that is the case, students should have the option of logging in with either a card or a fingerprint (since it is really just a number anyway)
